HESSTON, Kansas -- The 23rd ranked NOC Enid Jets earned a split Tuesday at Hesston (KS) 11-6 in Game 2 after dropping the first game 5-1.
The Jets are now 19-11 on the season.
"We came out in game one, made a few mistakes that ended up costing us some runs at the time and eventually the game but the boys accepted their mistakes, learned from them, fixed them and in game two, earned a win," said coach Scott Mansfield. " That's the sign of progress you want to see at this point in the year, learning from mistakes. Now it's time to focus on a four game weekend series."
In Game 2, the Jets broke open a slim 7-5 lead with four runs in the sixth to earn the 11-6 win.
Ambren Voitik had three hits while Tanner Holliman added two for the Jets. Brandon Lees and Ben Lawson each had two runs batted in.
Murphy Gienger was the winner out of the Jets' bullpen in relief of Dylon Mallett. Gienger allowed one run in 4.1 innings striking out seven.
In Game 1, the Jets scored a run in the first when Voitik scored on a sacrifice fly giving the Jets a 1-0 lead.
Hesston then scored three runs in the third and added single runs in the fith and sixth to win 5-1.
Voitik and Lees had two hits each while Calyn Halvorson and Cale Savage added singles for the Jets.
Thomas Kuykendall allowed four runs on six hits while striking out six.
The Jets host National Park (AR) in a four game conference series starting Saturday at 5 p.m. at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
